Last night the clocks went forward, and that extra light in the evening makes so much difference
Although while i write this, here in the UK we are in the middle of a cold snap, the wind whistling down the chimney. I am choosing to see Spring as a state of mind, which I'm embracing.
The madness that is deciding to add 4 chickens to our menagerie, 2 of which have decided they are house chickens and insist on coming inside whenever i open the back door! The dogs reluctantly accepting. They are already busy laying- we normally get an egg from each lady every day. And it always feels like finding a little treasure when there's an egg in the nest box waiting to be collected
Spring Jazz or Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark playing on repeat as I spring clean.
. The good life indeed!
Making this Lemon cake with the eldest. Because I believe spring should be welcomed into the home by baking something fluffy and a little tart.

March is for planting seeds, dreaming of abundant blooms come June. But for now buying daffodils and tulips by the handful. Not sure how the garden will cope with chickens. I have turned over the soil and am sprinkling grass seed daily as the lawn is in a very sorry state after winter; although this has attracted the unwanted attention of a rather handsome yet peckish young pigeon and his girlfriend, who believe this is an all-you-can-eat buffet just for them. And much like the pugs, are totally unbothered by the chickens.

Reading: I'm currently obsessed with the writings of Patti Smith. Was there ever anyone cooler? Even her breakfast brown toast, salt and olive oil with black coffee, is aspirational- stylish, simple. Grown up but cool. A strong contender to be this year's muse.
Watching 'La Piscine ' (the swimming pool) and tranporting myself to a 1960's summer in the South of France. Also Rope- The best Hitckock filmand that is a hill I'm willing to die on.
Crafting : Many things. I crochet rug- a long term project. And a mermaid tail blanket for the youngest. I'm also hoping to finally get around to papering the downstairs loo in the lovely maximalist wallpaper I bought last year.
Tips for welcoming Spring into our home
Spring brings a fresh start, warmer days, and nature’s colours returning after the cold months. It’s a season that invites us to step outside, refresh our routines, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Whether you live in a city or the countryside, there are many ways to celebrate spring and make the most of this vibrant time of year.
Enjoy Nature’s Renewal
Spring is the perfect time to reconnect with nature. Trees regain their leaves, flowers bloom, and birds return from migration. Spending time outdoors can boost your mood and energy.
Visit a local park or botanical garden to see spring flowers like tulips, daffodils, and crocuses.
Take a walk or bike ride on trails to enjoy fresh air and sunshine.
Start a small garden with easy-to-grow plants such as herbs, lettuce, or marigolds.
By observing the changes in nature, you can feel more grounded and inspired.
Refresh Your Living Space
Spring cleaning is more than just tidying up. It’s a chance to create a lighter, more inviting environment.
Open windows to let in fresh air and natural light.
Declutter areas that have collected dust or unused items over winter.
Add seasonal touches like fresh flowers, pastel-colored cushions, or light curtains.
A clean and bright home can improve your mood and productivity.
Try Seasonal Foods and Recipes
Spring offers a variety of fresh produce that tastes great and supports local farmers.
Look for asparagus, peas, radishes, and strawberries at farmers’ markets.
Experiment with simple recipes like spring vegetable salads, fruit smoothies, or light soups.
Preserve the season’s flavours by making homemade jams or pickles.
Eating seasonal foods connects you to the rhythm of the year and encourages healthier choices.

Embrace the Season Every Day
